Deadline and Categories for 2026 YII Awards

SYDNEY — Bentley Systems, the infrastructure engineering software giant, has announced the opening of submissions for its 2026 Year in Infrastructure (YII) Awards. The awards recognise significant advancements in digital innovation within infrastructure projects worldwide, according to the company.

Submissions for the YII Awards, which celebrate projects utilising Bentley software, will be accepted until May 3, 2026. The company confirmed that industry experts will evaluate entries based on digital advancements and measurable results, including efficiency, cost performance, and sustainability improvements.

Cate Lochead, chief marketing officer at Bentley Systems, stated, “The YII Awards showcase real-world results from teams innovating in areas like ground-informed design and AI,” emphasizing the importance of setting new standards in infrastructure.

Recognizing Digital Innovation

The awards programme has a history of acknowledging over 5,500 projects, including notable ones like the digital twin for St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sydney Airport upgrade. Monica Schnitger, founder of Schnitger Corporation, highlighted the evolution of the awards from recognizing 3D technology use to assessing comprehensive data asset utilization in projects.

This year’s categories span various disciplines, such as Bridges and Tunnels, Energy Production, and Structural Engineering. Finalists will be announced in August, with winners revealed during the Year in Infrastructure event in Singapore, scheduled for October 6-7.

In addition to the traditional categories, the 2026 YII Awards will introduce new sectors reflecting the industry’s growing focus on sustainability and digital transformation. One such category is ‘Sustainable Development,’ aimed at projects that significantly reduce environmental impact while enhancing infrastructure resilience. Another new category, ‘Digital Transformation Excellence,’ will honour projects that integrate cutting-edge technologies such as IoT, machine learning, and blockchain in infrastructure management.

As the awards continue to expand, Bentley Systems encourages project teams worldwide to participate. The goal is not only to recognise excellence but also to foster a global exchange of ideas and best practices in infrastructure engineering. With the rapidly changing technological landscape, the YII Awards serve as a catalyst for innovation, helping to drive the industry forward.
