Community Engagement Highlights Importance of Brain Health

ADELAIDE — Over 1,070 community members participated in the 2026 Adelaide Memory Walk & Jog, raising $173,950 to support those affected by dementia. Held last weekend, the event aimed to foster awareness and improve brain health through physical activity.

According to Professor Tanya Buchanan, CEO of Dementia Australia, the event saw significant community engagement. “The turnout from the Adelaide community was incredible, supporting many people impacted by dementia across the country,” Professor Buchanan stated.

Community Participation and Impact

Participants of all ages walked, ran, and jogged to help raise funds for Dementia Australia’s initiatives. Professor Buchanan emphasised the importance of these events, noting, “It’s moving to see the community support Dementia Australia’s work by raising funds and awareness, alongside promoting brain health.”

This event is part of a series of 14 Memory Walk & Jog events happening across Australia in 2026, providing opportunities for people affected by dementia and their supporters to connect, exercise, and share experiences. For those unable to attend, Dementia Australia encourages organizing individual or group walks under the MyWay initiative.

The success of the Adelaide event was made possible by the dedication of volunteers, as highlighted by Professor Buchanan, who expressed gratitude for their role in ensuring the event’s smooth operation.
