Leadership Transition at the LEGO Foundation
Agnete Kirk Kristiansen has been appointed Chair of the LEGO Foundation, following a board meeting on 13th May 2026. She succeeds her brother, Thomas Kirk Kristiansen, who will now serve as Deputy Chair.
As a fourth-generation member of the Kirk Kristiansen family, Agnete has been involved with the LEGO Foundation since 2008. She has served as Deputy Chair since 2023 and is also the Deputy Chair of KIRKBI A/S, the family’s holding and investment company.
Expressing her commitment to the foundation’s mission, Agnete Kirk Kristiansen stated, “I am truly honored to step into the role as Chair of the LEGO Foundation and to continue our important work for children.”
Board Changes and New Appointments
The LEGO Foundation board also welcomed Ingrid Stange, an expert in philanthropy and education, as a new member. Meanwhile, long-serving members Jørgen Vig Knudstorp and El Hadji Amadou Gueye Sy have departed after 16 and four years, respectively.
Reflecting on his tenure, Thomas Kirk Kristiansen highlighted the foundation’s global impact, with over DKK 15 billion in grants committed. He praised Agnete’s dedication, noting her role in shaping the foundation’s strategy as Deputy Chair.
The LEGO Foundation, which owns 25% of the LEGO Group, focuses on educational and developmental support for children through partnerships with organisations such as UNICEF and Save the Children.
Agnete Kirk Kristiansen has played a crucial role in enhancing the family’s involvement in their businesses. Her new role as Chair represents a deeper commitment to this engagement. Since its creation in 1986, the foundation has been pivotal in supporting children’s education worldwide.
As Chair, Agnete aims to further the foundation’s mission of giving all children a chance to thrive. She believes that every child should have the opportunity to grow and learn, regardless of their circumstances.
Thomas Kirk Kristiansen served as Chair since 2016. During his leadership, the foundation committed over EUR 2 billion in grants to various initiatives. These efforts have improved children’s educational outcomes in numerous countries.
