Expansion to Boost Sulphide Plant Capacity
Seeking to enhance its operational capabilities, Capstone Copper Corp. submitted an environmental permit application for Phase II of the Mantos Blancos project located in Antofagasta, Chile. The initiative was announced with the aim of significantly increasing the sulphide concentrator plant’s throughput capacity from 20,000 to at least 27,000 ore tonnes per day.
Incorporating new equipment for concentrate filtration and upgrades to existing operations, the expansion project focuses on boosting production efficiency. the company plans to construct a new in-pit tailings storage facility designed to support operations beyond 2030 while improving environmental management at Mantos Blancos.
Following the submission of the environmental permit, Capstone Copper anticipates releasing a pre-feasibility study in the third quarter of 2026, providing further details on the project. Expanded production at the Mantos Blancos site is expected to commence between 2030 and 2031, contingent upon receiving the necessary environmental and sectoral approvals. The construction phase is projected to last approximately one year.
