Every Toastie Sold Will Help Fund HoMie’s Youth Support Programs
More than 122,000 Australians were experiencing homelessness on Census night in 2021, with almost one in four aged between 12 and 24 years of age. As Australia’s housing crisis continues to deepen, an estimated three million people are now considered at risk of homelessness, highlighting just how quickly stable housing can become out of reach.
Running from August 3rd – 9th, Homelessness Awareness Week aims to build community support and government commitment to ending homelessness while encouraging Australians to take action in their own communities. This year’s theme, Homelessness Action Now, calls for immediate action rather than waiting for change.
In Melbourne, neighbourhood sandwich shop HiFi is answering that call with a fortnight-long collaboration alongside Fitzroy social enterprise HoMie, proving that grabbing lunch can also make a meaningful contribution.
Available for two weeks only, the limited-edition special will see a $2 donation of every toastie sold to HoMie, helping fund its education, employment and support programs for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Founded in Melbourne in 2015, HoMie has become much more than a streetwear label. The not-for-profit social enterprise reinvests 100 per cent of its profits into programs that create employment pathways, retail training, work experience and mentoring opportunities for young people, helping break the cycle of homelessness through long-term support.
The collaboration also reflects a broader shift happening across Melbourne hospitality, where venues are increasingly using their platforms to support local causes beyond food and drink. Rather than asking customers for an additional donation, initiatives like this allow people to contribute simply by ordering lunch.
For HiFi, community has always sat at the centre of its offering. Known for its generously filled sandwiches, quality produce and relaxed neighbourhood atmosphere, the Yolk Group venue has quickly become a favourite on Smith Street. Partnering with HoMie feels like a natural extension of those values.
While the limited-edition sandwich will be available only during the fortnight-long campaign, its impact extends well beyond 14 days. Every purchase helps support programs that equip young people with the confidence, skills and employment opportunities needed to build more stable futures – as well as
It’s a reminder that sometimes supporting your local community is as simple as deciding where to eat lunch.
