David Sedaris will appear at Hamer Hall on 22nd and 23rd January as part of his Australia and New Zealand tour

David Sedaris will bring his 2027 Australia and New Zealand tour to Melbourne for two Hamer Hall shows on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd January.

Tickets are on sale now, with the author and humourist due to read new essays and diary entries, take audience questions and hold an extended book signing.

The Melbourne dates are the final Australian stop before Sedaris heads to New Zealand for shows in Wellington and Auckland.

The tour begins at Canberra Theatre Centre on Thursday 14th January, before moving to Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Sydney and Brisbane. Sedaris will then perform at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall across two nights.

The shows follow the release of The Land and Its People, his first new essay collection since Happy-Go-Lucky. The collection reflects on being a foreigner, a brother and a lifelong friend, as well as taking on the role of caretaker after his partner Hugh’s hip-replacement surgery.

Sedaris said Australia’s airports were part of the appeal of returning.

“I love the airports of Australia. Security-wise, they’re like stepping into a time machine and coming out in 1975. No one yells at you; you get to keep your shoes on. It’s heaven,” Sedaris said.
