Survey Highlights Easter Eating Habits
A recent survey by MyFitnessPal reveals that 76% of Australians plan to enjoy Easter treats without the pressure of following a post-Easter diet. This indicates a relaxed approach to holiday indulgence, with Australians prioritizing enjoyment over dietary restrictions.
Nutritionist and MyFitnessPal ambassador, Michaela Sparrow, remarked, “Celebrations like Easter are often centred around food, and traditional treats like hot cross buns can play an important role in enjoyment and celebrating the holiday.”
The survey, conducted between 10th and 16th March 2026, sampled 1,011 Australians to understand their Easter eating habits. According to the survey, 45% of Australians expect to consume 1kg or more of chocolate and seasonal treats during the Easter period. Notably, 12% anticipate indulging in 4kg or more, highlighting significant variation in consumption habits.
Despite this, a significant majority, over three-quarters of respondents, have no plans to adopt a restrictive diet afterwards. This suggests that most Australians are not concerned about reversing their Easter indulgence through dieting. Among those planning a post-Easter diet, 59% cited feeling healthier as their main motivation rather than simply reacting to overindulgence.
Sparrow encourages Australians to incorporate nutrient-dense foods alongside sweets and to use nutrition tracking for mindful eating. “While there’s no need to eliminate sweets entirely, it’s important to maintain balance by incorporating nutrient-dense foods alongside sugary treats,” Sparrow advised. She further recommends staying hydrated and being mindful of portion sizes to support overall well-being during celebrations.
For Australians looking to maintain a balanced diet over the Easter break, Michaela Sparrow suggests considering nutrition tracking as a key tool. “Tracking what you eat using apps, like MyFitnessPal, can help remove the uncertainty from your food choices and make it easier to plan nutrition goals,” she added.
The poll’s findings reflect a broader trend of focusing on sustainable nutrition over short-term dietary fixes. MyFitnessPal, founded in 2005, remains a leading global app for nutrition and food tracking, helping users reach their health goals through better food choices.
