Estia Health, a leading provider of residential aged care services in Australia, will be sold by its owner, Bain Capital, to the global infrastructure investment firm Stonepeak. The agreement, announced on 27th May 2026, includes the involvement of a minority co-investor. This transition aims to ensure continuity for residents, families, and staff.
CEO and Managing Director Sean Bilton confirmed the current management team and governance structure will remain unchanged. He emphasised that the day-to-day experience of residents and staff will not change, maintaining consistency during the transition. “It is our privilege to be entrusted to care for older Australians and partner with our residents and their families at an extremely important time in their lives,” Bilton stated. “That privilege does not change with our ownership.”
Transaction Background
Bain Capital acquired Estia Health in December 2023. Over the years, Estia Health has expanded from 73 homes with approximately 6,720 places to 93 homes and approximately 9,250 places. The sale to Stonepeak is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
Stonepeak has a history of investing in senior living and aged care sectors in Australia and New Zealand. Their commitment supports Estia Health’s strategy and strengthens its foundations. Bilton added, “Our ambition is for Estia Health to lead the sector and deliver the quality-of-care older Australians deserve.”
