Electric Car Discount Boosts EV Uptake
Drivers who purchased electric vehicles (EVs) through Australia’s Electric Car Discount are seeing substantial savings this Easter. With petrol prices reaching $2.40 per litre, these drivers travel at a fraction of the cost compared to petrol or diesel vehicles. The Electric Car Discount plays a significant role in these savings.
Rohan Martin, CEO of the National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association (NALSPA), stated, “EV drivers are hitting the road these Easter holidays without being hit by rising fuel costs and supply shortages.”
Positive Economics Advisory’s recent analysis indicates that workers save about $289 monthly by opting for an EV on a novated lease. Annually, this equates to approximately $3,500, offering substantial financial relief.
The support of the Electric Car Discount has resulted in over 100,000 Australians driving EVs, particularly in the outer suburbs of major cities. This growth is largely due to the affordability provided by the Discount.
NALSPA emphasises that retaining the Electric Car Discount is crucial for fostering private sector investment in charging infrastructure. This will ensure smoother travel during peak periods like Easter.
Continuing the Electric Car Discount is essential for maintaining EV demand, especially beyond the current spike in fuel prices. It encourages more Australians to view EVs as a viable alternative.
Investment in Charging Infrastructure
Investments in fast charging stations along highways and in regional areas rely on ongoing support for EVs. The Electric Car Discount gives the private sector the confidence to invest further in these areas.
As fuel prices remain elevated, EV drivers are protected from the financial pressures that affect petrol and diesel motorists. This cost reduction is particularly advantageous during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
The upcoming winter school holidays are another major travel period. Keeping the Electric Car Discount will ensure that EV demand continues to rise, supporting further investment in charging infrastructure throughout Australia.
Rohan Martin also highlighted that while the initial cost of EVs is a barrier, the Discount is pivotal in making them more accessible. Many Australians would not have considered an EV without it.
In addition to cost, range anxiety and charging infrastructure remain concerns, especially during peak travel times like Easter. Continued investment in these areas is essential.
