About festivals in Melbourne

Festivals in Melbourne are woven into the very fabric of our city, bringing people together in celebration of everything from food and film to art, music and cultural traditions. Whether we find ourselves wandering through the city’s laneways lit up with installations, or sampling street food in a bustling suburban park, there is always a sense of discovery. From the grand lawns of Royal Botanic Gardens to the lively streets of St Kilda, Carlton and Footscray, every corner of Melbourne plays host to gatherings that invite us to connect and experience something new.

As locals and visitors alike, we can expect a friendly, welcoming atmosphere at most Melbourne festivals, with plenty of opportunity to mingle, learn and enjoy local talent. Outdoor spaces hum with live performances, market stalls and the aromas of food trucks, while historic theatres and galleries open their doors for special programs. Whether we’re after family-friendly fun or something a little more left-of-centre, Melbourne’s festival scene offers something for every taste, all year round.
