Funding Reallocation to Focus on Family Support
Family First plans to terminate the Victorian government’s $1.6 million grants to LGBTIQA+ organisations if elected. The party intends to redirect these funds to support youth mental health initiatives.
Councils and government agencies across Victoria continue staging IDAHOBIT and related Pride events this weekend. These events take place in public venues like libraries and community centers. Jane Foreman, a Family First candidate, criticises the allocation, arguing it favors ideological events over essential mental health support.
Foreman stated, “Victorian families should not be forced to bankroll drag and Pride activism through their taxes, especially in publicly owned venues used by children. This money should go to services that actually help young people, practical mental health support, early intervention, and family-focused care.”
Focus on Family Support
Family First aims to invest in early-intervention programs, family-centred counselling, and school-based wellbeing initiatives. These efforts seek to strengthen stable parenting relationships and restore the family as the primary unit of care and support.
Foreman commented on the need to protect public venues from activist events. She emphasised that public spaces should serve families rather than ideological campaigns. “Parents are fed up with activist events being pushed into libraries, community centres, and council spaces. Children need stability, not confusion, and parents deserve a government that backs them,” she added.
The party argues that public spaces should be safe, neutral, and family-friendly. They propose to ban drag queens and Pride events from publicly owned venues where children are likely to be present.
Amid significant pressures on families, Family First believes the government should prioritise their wellbeing. The proposal reflects a broader political stance on family-oriented public policy. They seek to cancel these grants and place the wellbeing of children and families first.
