Event Scheduled at Hyde Park North Sydney
On 7th June 2026, Flotilla survivors Anny Mokotow and Juliet Lamont will speak at a Pro Palestine event in Hyde Park North, Sydney, beginning at 1pm. Organisers aim to shed light on the experiences of the Global Sumud Flotilla participants.
Addressing the audience, Anny Mokotow and Juliet Lamont will discuss their interception by Israeli forces and the treatment they endured during detention. Their event will highlight broader movement goals, focusing on justice and accountability.
Participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla, including Mokotow and Lamont, have criticised Israel’s interception in international waters as a breach of international law. They allege mistreatment on prison ships and during their four-day detention on land.
Goals of the Australian Delegation
Several key objectives have been set forth by the Australian delegation. They seek meetings between government ministers and Flotilla survivors of Israeli violence and sexual assault. They demand the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador for allegedly misleading Australians.
Other goals include halting military trade and cooperation with Israel immediately and conducting an independent investigation into abuses by Israeli government agencies. The delegation also seeks to end military participation by dual citizens in the conflict.
Juliet Lamont, an Australian documentary filmmaker and head of the delegation, claims she was sexually assaulted and physically abused during her detainment. Together with her daughter Isla, she actively pursues justice.
Anny Mokotow, a Jewish anti-Zionist organiser from Melbourne, shared experiences from her upbringing in a Jewish Bundist community, which emphasised equality and solidarity. Her upbringing instilled the importance of speaking out against suffering.
Despite repeated calls for action, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has not met with the survivors or condemned Israel’s treatment of the Australian humanitarian volunteers. Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong has also not fulfilled her promise to meet with the Flotilla participants.
The Australian delegation has submitted evidence to the International Criminal Court, continuing to seek international support. The event in Hyde Park aims to raise awareness and mobilise support for the Pro Palestine movement, emphasising the ongoing pursuit of justice for the Flotilla survivors.
