Discovery Supports U.S. Critical Minerals Strategy
IDAHO — Resolution Minerals Ltd has announced the discovery of high-grade tungsten in historical stockpiles at their Johnson Creek Mill in Idaho, USA. The find aligns with the growing demand for U.S. critical minerals, according to a company statement released this week.
Resolution Minerals reported a tungsten grade of 1.85% WO₃ from a sampling programme conducted in late 2025. This discovery, confirmed by mineralogical analysis, suggests a straightforward processing path due to low impurity levels.
Implications for Domestic Tungsten Supply
The stockpiles, originating from the Golden Gate Tungsten Mine, have remained largely undisturbed since the 1980s. The company’s Executive Director, Aharon Zaetz, noted that the findings mark a significant milestone, reflecting potential for cost-effective processing and fast-tracking production.
The announcement coincides with heightened efforts by the U.S. government to secure domestic supply chains for critical minerals. With tungsten prices surging from US$400 to US$2,200 per metric ton, the need for local sources has become increasingly urgent.
Resolution Minerals is now advancing a detailed sampling and assay programme to achieve JORC compliance, aiming to leverage the mineralogical advantages of the scheelite-dominant stockpiles. This initiative not only supports the company’s growth but also contributes to the broader objective of reducing dependency on foreign tungsten supplies. By tapping into these stockpiles, Resolution Minerals is poised to play a pivotal role in bolstering the domestic tungsten supply chain.
The company’s strategic decision to focus on these stockpiles comes at a crucial time. As global demand for tungsten continues to rise, fuelled by its essential role in manufacturing and technology sectors, ensuring a stable domestic supply is more important than ever. The U.S. government’s strategic minerals initiative emphasises the importance of such discoveries, recognizing the potential economic and security benefits of developing local resources.
