HistoSonics Secures Financing with Strategic Investors

Funding to Enhance Clinical Applications

HistoSonics, the Minneapolis-based developer of the Edison® Histotripsy System, announced the closure of a new financing round on 22nd June, with participation from Reed Jobs and Yosemite, whose mission is to make cancer non-lethal in our lifetime, along with several other strategic investors.

Valued at $3.75 billion, this financing supports the development of additional clinical applications for HistoSonics’ non-invasive histotripsy therapy platforms, specifically for treating solid tumours beyond the liver.

According to Mike Blue, Chairman and CEO of HistoSonics, “Building a generational company requires partners who bring more than capital. This financing continues to add strategic investors who understand our mission, appreciate the magnitude of the opportunity ahead, and share our commitment to delivering lasting value for patients, physicians, and shareholders.”

Recent Advancements and Future Plans

Over the past year, HistoSonics has made significant progress in the commercial and clinical sectors, particularly in treating liver tumours, including metastatic disease. Notably, there is growing physician adoption and increasing utilization at leading academic medical centres and health systems.

The company recently submitted a De Novo request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clearance to use its technology for kidney tumour destruction, representing a major expansion opportunity for histotripsy.

HistoSonics is advancing clinical applications for pancreatic tumours, aiming to meet the profound unmet patient needs in this area. An FDA submission for pancreatic applications is anticipated as clinical and technical milestones continue to be achieved.

Reed Jobs from Yosemite stated, “HistoSonics is pioneering an entirely new approach to addressing some of the world’s deadliest cancers and diseases, and we are excited to support the company as it expands the reach of histotripsy throughout the entire body.”

Histotripsy, the technology behind the Edison System, uses focused ultrasound energy and acoustic cavitation to mechanically destroy targeted tissue non-invasively, potentially with fewer side effects than traditional therapies. The Edison Histotripsy System received U.S. FDA De Novo clearance for the destruction of liver tumours and has seen expanding clinical adoption across the United States and internationally.
