Global Call for Release of Humanitarian Volunteers

Wednesday morning at 6am, a significant dawn vigil will occur at Kirribilli House. This gathering aims to demand the release of 11 Australian humanitarian volunteers detained by Israel. These individuals were captured following the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla.

In international waters west of Cyprus, the Israeli navy intercepted the flotilla. Nearly 400 activists, including 11 Australians, participated in this mission to deliver aid to Gaza.

Ethan Floyd, who recently returned home after being detained, plans to attend the vigil. Parents of the detained Australians are also expected to be present at the event, which will take place at Kirribilli House, 109 Kirribilli Ave, NSW.

Flotilla Background and International Response

Aiming to break the blockade on Gaza, the Global Sumud Flotilla faced interception by Israeli forces. During this operation, 38 boats were seized, and almost 400 activists were captured. This recent interception follows an earlier attempt between Italy and Greece.

Flotilla organisers urge Australian officials, including Penny Wong and Anthony Albanese, to demand the safe return of the Australians. they call for a public condemnation of Israel’s actions.

Notable Australians among the detained include Neve O’Connor, Sam Woripa Watson, Anny Mokotow, Isla Lamont, Juliet Lamont, Surya McEwen, Zack Schofield, Dr. Bianca Webb-Pullman, Gemma O’Toole, Violet Coco, and Helen O’Sullivan.

Israeli forces began their naval operation at 5:30pm AEST. The current location of the activists remains unknown, causing concern among families and international observers.

Alongside the flotilla, a land convoy travels through Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. This convoy aims to break Israel’s siege on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid.

International attention grows as the situation develops, with continued calls for diplomatic efforts and humanitarian intervention. This event underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
