Former Employee Transitions to Franchise Owner
On January 2026, the 25-year-old Bayside Print Solutions was acquired by Lucas Barker, who has now transformed it into a Minuteman Press franchise in Capalaba, Queensland.
With more than 25 years of industry experience, Barker has served in roles such as a Field Representative for Minuteman Press International for eleven years. His extensive background contributes significantly to his new role as a business owner.
Joining the Minuteman Press network offers numerous advantages, including enhanced vendor buying power and access to branding tools. Barker states, “Trading under the Minuteman Press banner opens doors to better buying power from vendors and relationships that many independents do not have access to.”
Focus on Growth and Community Involvement
After taking over, Barker has driven growth, modernisation, and community engagement. He became a member of a local BNI group and invested in the Minuteman Press Internet Marketing Programme, leading to expanded services like apparel.
The transition from employee to owner was supported by the Minuteman Press team. “The Minuteman Press team was very supportive and helped me every step of the way to get into business for myself,” Barker expresses.
Modernisation efforts at the centre have been positively received by customers, resulting in increased demand for services like apparel and large mailings. Barker continues to strengthen his local presence through these initiatives.
Encouraging prospective business owners, Barker advises learning about the Minuteman Press system and culture. He recommends meeting team members and visiting centres to make informed decisions.

Before acquiring the business, Barker gained valuable experience at another print franchise and a large international exhibition displays company. His career has developed skills in production, design, account management, production management, and sales.
