Call for Community Involvement in Bundaberg
Residents of Bundaberg are being urged by The Salvation Army to join the Red Shield Appeal. This initiative aims to gather essential funds to assist those facing hardships in the region. Across Australia, this year’s appeal is part of a national effort to raise $41 million.
The Red Shield Appeal, now in its 62nd year, is Australia’s longest-running door-knock campaign. It funds various community programmes nationwide. Chris and Melissa Millard, leaders of The Salvation Army in Bundaberg, highlighted the increasing struggles of families due to global uncertainty and rising living costs.
“We know that people are doing it really tough in our community right now,” said Majors Chris and Melissa Millard. “That is why we are calling on those in Bundaberg to dig deep, get involved in the Red Shield Appeal, and be the hope our community desperately needs right now.”
The funds raised for the Red Shield Appeal will support the Bundaberg community by providing resources for local rehabilitation services, emergency financial relief, and the Positive Lifestyle programme. The Salvation Army also aims to recruit 15,000 volunteers nationwide this year to aid in their fundraising efforts.
Mark your calendars for the Red Shield Weekend on the 30th and 31st of May, which will culminate this year’s appeal. Community members can engage in various activities, such as volunteering at local shopping centres, door-knocking, and participating in online fundraising.
In addition to local efforts, a launch event is scheduled for Friday, 29th May at The Waves Sports Club in Bundaberg. Attendees will include local business leaders and The Salvation Army Area Officer Captain Brad Whittle. The event will focus on supporting women experiencing domestic violence and homelessness.
Throughout Australia last year, The Salvation Army provided assistance to one person every 17 seconds through its extensive network of over 400 centres and 2,000 services. These services address areas such as homelessness, family and domestic violence, youth support, and financial hardship.
