Teams Announced for Thrilling Series

Excitement builds as the Queensland Maroons gear up to face the New South Wales Blues in the 2026 PBR Australia Monster Energy Origin Series. Kicking off on 30th May in Newcastle, this series promises electrifying action.

History was made when New South Wales clinched their first PBR Origin Series title in 2025. This victory has placed the Blues under immense pressure to prove it was not a fluke. Meanwhile, Queensland is resolute in their quest to reclaim the coveted trophy. The series will travel to Brisbane on 6th June and culminate in Sydney at the TikTok Entertainment Centre on 1st August.

Leading Queensland’s formidable lineup is reigning Australian Champion Kurt Shephard from Mareeba. Joining him are Macaulie Leather and Donnie Rutherfurd, who return from successful campaigns in the United States. Fan favorites Zane Hall, Boston Leather, and Ben Bode enhance the team’s depth.

Equally strong, the Blues boast returning stars Sam Woodall and Clint Glass. Their lineup is enriched by international talents like Brazilians Keny Roger and Alison Aguiar. Adding fresh vigor, Colby Edgar from Tamworth will make his Origin debut.

Queensland will once again be led by Jared Borghero, a former bull rider and now one of the toughest protection athletes in the sport. The Blues will be guided by Lachlan Richardson, a seven-time PBR World Finals qualifier and a respected figure in Australian bull riding.

“There’s nothing in Australian sport quite like Origin, and in bull riding, it’s eight seconds of absolute chaos where every ride matters,” stated Glen Young, PBR Australia Managing Director. “Last year proved the Blues are no longer underdogs, but Queensland is coming back with one thing on its mind, revenge.”

Adding to the thrill, junior riders from the 2025 PBR Australia Can-Am Junior Academy will open events. These young athletes, aged between nine and 17, will compete in Newcastle, Brisbane, and Sydney, showcasing their skills in a bid to become the next stars of bull riding.

Tickets for the 2026 PBR Monster Energy Origin Series are on sale now. Fans have the chance to witness this thrilling rivalry firsthand. The series promises intense competition, with both teams fielding strong reserves ready to step up if needed.

Last year, Sydney’s decider was one of the most dramatic nights in Australian bull riding history. The Blues stormed to a breakthrough victory, defeating Queensland 500.25 points to 419.50, with six qualified rides to the Maroons’ five. This year, both teams are eager to assert their dominance once more.

As the series approaches, anticipation grows among fans and participants alike. With such strong lineups, the 2026 PBR Origin Series is set to be an unforgettable contest.
