Event Promotes Physical Activity and Social Connection
ILLAWARRA — The Memory Walk & Jog is set to return to Illawarra on March 22, bringing the community together at Lang Park to support brain health and those impacted by dementia, according to Dementia Australia.
Dementia Australia emphasises the event’s role in raising funds to provide support, education, and resources for individuals living with dementia, their families, and caregivers. Participants can choose to walk, jog, or run distances of 2.5km, 6km, or 9km.
The organisation highlights that physical activity and social interaction play crucial roles in maintaining brain health, potentially reducing or delaying the onset of dementia, despite unchangeable factors like age and genetics.
Community Engagement and Fundraising Efforts
According to Dementia Australia, the Memory Walk & Jog aims to foster a sense of community and support. The event allows participants to contribute to vital fundraising efforts while engaging in healthy activities.
For those unable to attend the official event, Dementia Australia offers the opportunity to organize individual or group walks through the MyWay initiative, allowing participants to choose their own time and location.
Dementia Australia serves as a critical resource for over 446,500 Australians living with dementia and the 1.7 million people involved in their care, advocating for change and supporting research. For additional information or support, individuals can contact the National Dementia Helpline at 1800 100 500 or visit dementia.org.au.
