NBA House brings NBA playoff experience to Port Melbourne

NBA House will debut in Melbourne for the first time, with the NBA confirming a four-day fan event at The Timber Yard in Port Melbourne from 14th to 17th May as part of the 2026 NBA Playoffs. The launch matters because it brings a global, ticketed fan experience into Melbourne, shifting how the league engages Australian audiences beyond screens.

The event will be headlined by two-time NBA All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Utah Jazz and four-time All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, both appearing across the four days. The Port Melbourne venue will be transformed into a 6,000-square-metre space featuring on-court basketball activities, live performances, DJ sets, meet-and-greets and a 3-on-3 celebrity game.

This move reflects a broader shift in how major sports leagues are expanding internationally. Rather than relying on broadcast alone, leagues are investing in in-person events that combine sport, music and culture. In Melbourne, where demand for large-scale, experience-led events continues to grow, this positions NBA House as a multi-day event rather than a one-off.

The event will also include streetwear showcases, photo opportunities with the Larry O’Brien Trophy and appearances from the Sacramento Kings mascot Slamson, the Kings Dancers and the Kings dunk team.

NBA House has previously been held in Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States, with Melbourne marking its first Australian edition. The expansion follows the NBA’s continued push into international markets, including its first event in Japan earlier in April.
