Reckon AI releases are due in the second half of 2026
Reckon plans to add AI features to its accounting and payroll platforms for SMEs in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of 2026. The Sydney-based software provider reaffirmed that strategy on 30 July 2026 after reporting about 30% efficiency gains in product development.
Sam Allert, chief executive of Reckon, called AI one of the biggest technology shifts in decades. He said Reckon was “investing meaningfully in AI across both of our businesses”.
Across Australia and New Zealand, the planned SME features will focus on automation, intelligent insights and improved user experience. In the United States, Reckon has already launched DataQ AI through its Legal division.
DataQ AI helps law firms extract deeper insights from billing and collections data. It also aims to make invoice-to-cash processes more efficient for US firms.
Allert said the gains were “not about reducing headcount, they are about empowering our people”. He linked the 30% efficiency gain to faster product development and stronger customer outcomes.
According to Reckon, its human-plus-AI model combines staff expertise with new tools. Management sees that approach as a long-term competitive advantage as first SME releases move toward late 2026.
DataQ AI and AWS rollout
Amazon Web Services supports all of Reckon’s cloud infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand. Reckon said that long-running setup has delivered strong uptime, security and reliability across both markets.
Meanwhile, AWS is also working with Reckon on its AI strategy. The company is providing access to advanced AI tools, programmes and specialist support to speed delivery.
Allert said the AWS partnership had been foundational to Reckon’s technology platform. He said AWS would help Reckon bring new AI-powered capabilities to market more quickly and with confidence.
Following that work, Reckon is building an AI-powered onboarding assistant for new and existing customers. The company is also developing in-product notifications for compliance tasks such as Payday Super and STP lodgements.
Reckon is also updating its bank feed and reconciliation experience as part of the same roadmap. In parallel, the group is putting governance frameworks in place for oversight, data security and compliance.
The 30 July 2026 update covered operations in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. It also set out how DataQ AI, AWS support and the SME product roadmap fit into Reckon’s wider AI growth plan.
