New Machine to Open at Silverdale
Residents of Wollondilly will soon experience more convenient recycling options with the introduction of a new Return and Earn machine at Silverdale Shopping Centre. This new facility is scheduled to open on 24th April.
Replacing the Ampol Luddenham machine, which will close on 19th April at 10 pm, the Silverdale machine becomes the fifth return point in the Wollondilly Shire Council area. This addition makes recycling eligible containers and receiving a 10-cent refund easier than ever.
James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, stated, “This new machine will be easily accessible in the rear outdoor parking area, making it easy for locals to include Return and Earn as part of their routine.” The machine’s location at 2316 Silverdale Road ensures accessibility for all residents.
Recycling Made Easier
The machine features the latest ‘takes-all’ technology, allowing recyclers to return all eligible drink containers through any of its four chutes without sorting glass from plastic and aluminum. This advancement simplifies the recycling process significantly.
Recyclers have several refund options. They can choose to print a voucher redeemable at Woolworths, receive an e-voucher, or get a direct payment into their bank or PayPal account via the Return and Earn app.
Since the scheme’s inception, Wollondilly residents have returned over 64 million eligible bottles, cans, and cartons. Statewide, more than 15.6 billion drink containers have been recycled, resulting in over $1.5 billion in container refunds being returned to the community.
The programme also supports charitable giving. Donations can be made to over 500 partners, including Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, which provides essential services to those with low vision, and Jeans for Genes, focused on research for treating and curing children’s genetic conditions.
Return and Earn has become a significant fundraising avenue for many charities and community groups across New South Wales. More than $91 million has been raised from donations and fees since the scheme was launched in 2017.
The new Silverdale machine will operate daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, offering residents ample opportunity to recycle and contribute to environmental sustainability. The removal of the Ampol Luddenham machine will complete by 19th April, ensuring a smooth transition. For further details on the Return and Earn program, visit returnandearn.org.au.
