Cloud-Native Solutions for Rural Connectivity
On April 9, 2026, Mavenir, a leader in cloud-native software for mobile networks, announced that RINA Wireless, the Rural Independent Network Alliance, has chosen its solutions to enhance voice services in rural America. This initiative involves deploying advanced cloud-native VoLTE and VoWiFi technologies.
This collaboration extends a relationship that began in 2022, focusing on modernizing RINA Wireless‘s voice core by deploying IMS, VoLTE, VoWiFi, and Voicemail solutions. The project aims to replace legacy systems with Mavenir’s containerized voice core, which is expected to reduce operational costs and increase the reliability of services in remote communities.
RINA Wireless plays a crucial role in providing essential connectivity to remote areas across America. Without the financial resources of larger carriers, these smaller operators face challenges in delivering reliable wireless services. Mavenir’s cloud-native packet core helps change the economics for these carriers by enabling more cost-effective service delivery.
Director of RINA Operations, Allen Bennion, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “Small rural carriers provide essential connectivity to remote communities across America. Working with Mavenir’s cloud-native packet core has enabled us to change the economics for carriers serving remote locations. We’re delighted to expand our successful relationship to deliver high-quality, reliable voice services.”
The deployment of Mavenir’s solutions not only enhances voice services but also includes a future-proof roadmap that supports both 4G and 5G networks. The fully containerized voice core allows RINA Wireless to reduce its OPEX by minimizing software licensing, management, and hardware costs.
RINA Wireless first implemented Mavenir’s cloud-native, small footprint containerized Evolved Packet Core (EPC) in 2022. This enables the separation of the control and user planes, allowing for the deployment of remote gateways to manage local traffic breakouts, thereby reducing transport costs and latency.
Brandon Larson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mavenir’s Cloud, AI & IMS Business Strategy, remarked: “RINA Wireless, with its hosted core network and switching capabilities, delivers comprehensive carrier solutions that enhance both connectivity and operational efficiency.”
By adding Mavenir’s future-proof, cloud-native voice core to its portfolio, RINA Wireless demonstrates how cloud-native solutions are fundamental to empowering rural carriers. This initiative lays the foundation for advanced communications, even for the smallest operators serving the most remote areas.
Mavenir plans to present additional details about this partnership and its impact on rural connectivity at the 2026 Rural Wireless Infrastructure Summit in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, from June 22 to 24.
