Strategic Agreement for Subsea Development
Global energy technology company SLB, in collaboration with Subsea7, announced a strategic agreement with PETRONAS Suriname E&P B.V. on April 7. This partnership aims to accelerate subsea oil and gas developments in Suriname’s emerging frontier basin. The agreement sets a long-term collaboration framework, facilitating early engagement to co-develop cost-effective solutions and enhance project economics.
SLB OneSubsea‘s CEO, Mads Hjelmeland, explained, “Collaboration and simplification are key to unlocking resources faster.” The partnership focuses on improving project performance, enhancing safety, and achieving sustainable outcomes by aligning goals with PETRONAS Suriname.
The Subsea Integration Alliance, comprising SLB OneSubsea and Subsea7, may provide full engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) solutions for multiple discoveries in Suriname. Their scope includes subsea production systems (SPS) and subsea umbilical, riser, and flowlines (SURF) components.

Projects allows for co-development and the creation of cost-effective solutions. This approach accelerates field development and ensures timely and efficient delivery, enhancing project economics. Olivier Blaringhem, CEO of Subsea Integration Alliance, stated, “This is an exciting and important step for the development of the significant opportunities of PETRONAS Suriname in the country’s frontier basins.” The collaboration leverages deepwater expertise to maximise value and secure vital energy resources in the region.
By utilising technology expertise and integrated execution, the agreement reduces risks, shortens timelines, and delivers cost-effective subsea solutions. It enhances delivery certainty and unlocks greater value across the PETRONAS Suriname portfolio. Further developments are expected throughout 2026.
