NDIS Participants Gain Greater Living Control

STEPS has launched its Individualised Living Options (ILO) service on the Sunshine Coast, providing NDIS participants with more choice and control over their living arrangements as of 20th April 2026. This service aims to offer flexible, person-led living options, moving away from traditional housing models.

Rebecca Bowtell, General Manager of STEPS NDIS Services, noted, “The expansion reflects STEPS’ commitment to delivering holistic, life-changing support.” The ILO model is funded by the NDIS and assists participants in designing the support they need to live independently, with housemates, or in host arrangements. Funding is accessible under ‘Individualised Living Options – Exploration and Design’ or through self-funding.

A dedicated ILO Coordinator guides each participant through every stage, ensuring a personalised approach to housing and care decisions. Ms Bowtell emphasised, “Everyone needs a home in which they feel safe and supported – these are not luxuries, but basic aspects of a fulfilling life.”

Finding a suitable home on the Sunshine Coast can be challenging, especially for individuals with disabilities who require around-the-clock support. STEPS, with its years of service in the community, helps navigate this process without compromising participants’ autonomy and quality of life.

The ILO service is available on the Sunshine Coast, with offices in Caloundra and extending to Maroochydore and Nambour. STEPS has been a trusted provider of disability support services for 40 years, consistently empowering communities. The launch of the ILO service is part of their ongoing efforts to adapt to framework changes introduced by the NDIS later this year.

Prospective participants, referrers, and NDIS service professionals are encouraged to contact the STEPS Customer Care Team at 1300 131 965 or visit the STEPS ILO webpage for more information. Connecting with STEPS enables individuals to find services and programmes that best meet their needs and goals.
