Independent MPs Demand Transparency on NDIS Changes
Federal Independent MPs are calling for more transparency and safeguards from the Albanese Government regarding NDIS funding cuts as the scheme faces scrutiny in anticipation of the 2026 627 Budget. The team, spearheaded by Kooyong MP Dr Monique Ryan, includes MPs Zali Steggall, Kate Chaney, and Nicolette Boele.
Dr Monique Ryan emphasised, “The most vulnerable in our community shouldn 27t be penalised for flaws in its design structure as the government works to ensure the sustainability and integrity of the NDIS.”
The group has formally addressed their concerns to federal ministers Mark Butler and Jenny McAllister. They highlighted potential NDIS funding reductions, the introduction of an automated plan-setting tool, and the negative impacts these changes could have on participants. Since its establishment in 2013, the NDIS has transformed the lives of Australians with permanent and significant disabilities. However, demand has grown faster than anticipated, partly due to gaps in support elsewhere for those with mild to moderate needs.
