Event Supports Global Sumud Flotilla Efforts

Sunday, May 3rd, marks a significant event as Sydneysiders prepare to paddle across Sydney Harbour. Their aim is to show solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla following its interception by Israeli defence forces.

Advocating for a free Palestine, the event seeks support for the release of detained activists. Among those advocating are six Australians who were previously held by Israeli forces. They now work to secure the freedom of Steering Committee members Thiago Avela and Saif Abukeshek.

Kayakers will embark from Milson’s Park, Kirribilli, at 10.30am, making their way to the Man O’War Steps near the Sydney Opera House by 11.15am. This route across the harbour provides a picturesque setting for the demonstration.

Paddle Event Details

Participants will engage in a coordinated paddle-out, carrying flags and gathering at the Man O’War Steps. The event is expected to feature strong visuals, including numerous kayakers and demonstrators.

For media inquiries, Emily Mitchell is the contact person for arranging camera access on the water. She can be reached at 0425 293 507. Alexa Stuart from Rising Tide is available for more information on the flotilla’s situation and can be contacted at 0423 361 030.

Yesterday morning, the Israeli defence forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla as it attempted to deliver life-saving aid to Gaza. This action has prompted international calls for support and attention to the flotilla’s mission.

Expect significant community involvement, as the event underscores ongoing efforts to aid Gaza. A gathering at Sydney Harbour serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent humanitarian needs in the region.

Beyond a protest, this paddle event is a call to action, urging international backing for those detained and the people of Gaza. The community aims to send a potent message of solidarity and support.
