Celebrating the Polo Shirt's Historical Roots and

Modern Appeal

SYDNEY — U.S. Polo Assn. has launched a global campaign celebrating the polo shirt’s historical significance and modern appeal. The campaign, titled “An Icon Born from the Game,” was unveiled this week, highlighting the shirt’s origins in polo and its evolution into a fashion staple.

The campaign will roll out in 190 countries, featuring a strong presence in stores and various media. J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global, stated that the initiative honors the shirt’s legacy, connecting its sports origins with contemporary culture.

As part of the campaign, U.S. Polo Assn. aims to make the polo shirt a visible icon worldwide, according to a company statement. The campaign will coincide with the USPA Gold Cup and the U.S. Open Polo Championship finals on April 26.

Campaign Details and Industry Context

The polo shirt, which began as a functional sports garment, has become a symbol of casual elegance. Brian Kaminer, Senior Vice President of Brand and Product Development, emphasised the shirt’s versatility, stating that it is designed for both performance and everyday wear.

This announcement comes as demand for versatile, stylish sportswear continues to grow. U.S. Polo Assn.’s campaign aims to strengthen its position as an authentic sports brand with a deep connection to polo, a sport it has supported since 1890.

Nico Escobar, the brand’s global ambassador and professional polo player, praised the campaign for understanding the dual role of the polo shirt in both sports and lifestyle. The campaign will feature diverse styles catering to various preferences, including sporty, classic, and bold designs.
