Regional Focus on Everyday Legal Issues

Victorian Law Week 2026 will feature over 100 free and low-cost events across regional Victoria from 18th to 24th May. These events provide practical help on legal issues such as renting, work, and consumer rights.

The theme for this year, ‘Where law meets life’, offers guidance on navigating common legal problems. Events will be held in locations including Bendigo, Shepperton, the Hume region, Horsham, the Grampians, and Gippsland, ensuring regional access to legal information.

Community organisations, legal services, and government agencies will host these events, which are designed for those without a legal background. Sessions will be available in person and online, covering topics like housing disputes and workplace rights.

Victoria Law Foundation Executive Director Lynne Haultain stated, “Law usually meets life in the everyday. It could be dodgy purchases, bond disputes or unpaid wages. Victorian Law Week is about giving people clear, reliable information and a way to find the right help, without the jargon.”

Event Highlights and Topics

Key events include ‘The Gentle Art of Making a Complaint’, which explores the role of ombudsmen in resolving issues. ‘Understanding Your Rights at Work’ focuses on workplace safety and dispute resolution. ‘Demystifying Your Insurance Policy’ offers insights into navigating insurance claims.

‘Flying the Coop: A Practical Guide to Growing Up and Moving Out’ addresses legal issues faced by young adults. ‘Quiz a Cop’ allows attendees to clarify road rules with a police officer.

Pet owners in Greater Shepparton can benefit from ‘Responsible Pet Ownership’, which will cover local animal-related laws. Full details and registration are available at viclawweek.org.au/program.

The Victoria Law Foundation organizes Victorian Law Week, ensuring that people across the state can access essential legal knowledge and support. For media enquiries, contact Mick Paskos at 0412 201 044.

This year, the week-long programme ensures that communities from Bendigo to the Bass Coast can participate. The events include practical workshops and seminars to aid in understanding legal rights and responsibilities.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from legal experts. These sessions are crafted to demystify the legal process, making it accessible to everyone.
