Villagehood app connects mothers with support and education
Villagehood and Birth Trauma Australia have launched a new partnership during Birth Trauma Awareness Week. The partnership connects Australian mothers with support, education and community through the Villagehood app.
An estimated 1 in 3 women in Australia are affected by birth-related trauma. However, the issue is often misunderstood or left unspoken.
The two organisations want to encourage more informed and compassionate conversations about birth experiences. They also aim to improve access to evidence-based resources and support.
Villagehood said birth experiences are among the most common topics discussed at its local meet-ups. Those conversations can help some mothers, but they can also be difficult for parents still processing traumatic births.
Brittany Bloomer
Brittany Bloomer, founder of Villagehood, said the group wants mothers to have the knowledge and support to handle those conversations with empathy and understanding.
Bloomer said, “One of the things we’ve noticed at Villagehood is that birth experiences are one of the most common topics mums discuss at our local meet-ups.”
Villagehood is an Australian free community app for mothers. It helps mums build real-life friendships through local events, meet-ups and trusted support networks.
The platform also links mothers with local communities, health services, activities and organisations. As a result, users can find support networks during motherhood in one app.
Birth Trauma Australia
Birth Trauma Australia is a national organisation focused on birth-related trauma. Its work includes advocacy, education, awareness and support for individuals, families and healthcare professionals.
Through the partnership, Villagehood users will be able to access trusted support and evidence-based resources from Birth Trauma Australia. Meanwhile, the awareness week launch gives both groups a clear point to raise the issue publicly.
The partnership is aimed at Australian families seeking support around difficult birth experiences.
Birth Trauma Australia said it works to improve outcomes for Australians affected by birth-related trauma. That includes support for families as well as healthcare professionals.
