Australian Technology SolShare Expands Solar Access

Based cleantech firm Allume has successfully connected 10,000 apartments to solar energy through its innovative SolShare technology, delivering substantial electricity savings to residents in Australia and other countries. Rising energy prices have made solar solutions more appealing, and Allume’s milestone comes at a critical time.

SolShare technology by Allume allows apartment dwellers to access rooftop solar energy, overcoming the previous technical and cost barriers. Among the 10,000 apartments using this technology, 6,000 are in Australia. This advancement is significant for approximately 2 million Australians residing in low to medium-rise apartments.

Residents utilising SolShare have experienced a notable reduction in electricity bills, with an average decrease of 34% per apartment, translating to around $381 in annual savings. This development enables residents to benefit from clean and affordable energy.

Following the successful implementation of SolShare, Allume has witnessed a remarkable growth of 109% over the past three years and anticipates doubling this rate by 2026. The rising demand for renewable energy solutions underscores this expansion.

Cameron Knox, CEO and Co-Founder of Allume, stated, “We’re incredibly proud that our homegrown technology is providing people – who were previously locked out – with direct access to cheaper, cleaner solar power right from their own rooftops. Connecting 10,000 households to SolShare proves that the transition to renewables can, and should, be accessible to all.”

Government initiatives such as Victoria’s Solar for Apartments Rebates and the NSW Solar for Apartment Residents (SoAR) Grant are propelling this growth by offering financial support for solar projects. The Victorian programme provides rebates of up to $2,800 per apartment, covering an average of 71% of costs, while the NSW programme offers grants covering up to 50% of total costs.

Veronica, an Allume customer from Camperdown, NSW, shared her experience: “Prior to installing solar, it was about $120 to $130 a month, and now it’s down to about $70 or $80 a month. So I’m saving I think about $50 a month since installing solar.”

Applications for the Victorian Solar for Apartments Programme are open until July 2027, and the NSW SoAR programme is accepting applications until December 2026. These programmes underscore the economic advantages of solar adoption for apartment owners.

Founded in Melbourne, VIC in 2015, Allume’s vision is a world where everyone can access clean and affordable energy from the sun. SolShare, their world-first technology, realizes this vision by enabling fair sharing of solar energy from a single rooftop array.
