ABC will supply a free HD host feed to accredited media

A national service marking the 25th anniversary of Australia’s involvement in Afghanistan will be broadcast live from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra at 10:30 am on Sunday 11 October 2026.

ABC is providing the host broadcast feed in association with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The ceremony will also air live on ABC.

Media attending in person must arrive by 9:00 am and complete security screening before 9:15 am. A pre-service program will begin at 10:00 am, ahead of the main commemorative service.

DVA asked media outlets to register attendance by close of business on 4 October 2026. The department will set aside a designated media area with a clear line of sight to the ceremony.

ABC feed details for broadcasters

For broadcasters, the television feed will be available in HD on ABN TX1 via the Kent Street node of the Telstra Dimetis DVN2 network in Sydney. ABC will not provide an SD version.

As a result, outlets that cannot take an HD feed will need to arrange their own down-conversion through an external intermediary. The host broadcast will be provided free of charge to accredited media that request it.

The program will begin with opening titles at 10:30:00 AEST and run for about 60 minutes. Following the titles, ABC will hold a wide shot for about four seconds as an optional joining point.

At the end of the service, the broadcast will return to a wide shot for another four seconds before the ABC closing copyright logo. That gap is intended to give outlets taking the event live time to exit the feed.

A separate clean feed in HD, without titles or supers, will also be available from the back of the OB van. However, broadcasters must organise access to that feed the day before the service.

There will be no radio feed for the service itself. Meanwhile, ABC Radio Master Control in Sydney can provide an audio split for radio use.

DVA is commemorating 25 years since Australian service in Afghanistan with the national event in Canberra. The service at the Australian War Memorial is scheduled to start 11 days after the department dated its access information on 1 October 2026.
