EV sales report says Tesla and Polestar hit 5,854 in September

43,386 deliveries in 2026 so far, up 77%

EV sales from Tesla and Polestar reached 5,854 battery electric vehicles in Australia in September 2026, according to the Electric Vehicle Council.

Across 2026 so far, the two brands have sold 43,386 vehicles. That was 77% higher than the same period last year.

For the September quarter, the three-month average for Tesla and Polestar sales was 6,199 vehicles.

However, the monthly dataset does not cover the full Australian new vehicle market. It includes only Tesla and Polestar deliveries.

All vehicle brands can provide data to the public report on a non-exclusive basis, the council said.

Importantly, the figures are recorded at the point of delivery, not when orders are placed.

Tesla Model Y drives September total

In September, the Tesla Model Y family accounted for 4,476 sales. That made up 76% of all models sold across the Tesla and Polestar range.

Meanwhile, Tesla delivered 1,178 Model 3 sedans in September. Model 3 sales rose 60% from September 2025.

Separately, Tesla announced a new base-model Model 3 sedan priced from less than $46,000 before on-road costs.

Across all states and territories, year-to-date sales increased by between 45.7% and 113.3%.

The Electric Vehicle Council publishes the monthly figures as a report of vehicles delivered in Australia. It aims to make data publicly available across all Australian new vehicle sales to improve transparency and consumer confidence.

On 2 October 2026, the council also launched the 10th edition of its State of EVs report with federal Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen.

That annual report covers EV sales across cars, vans, trucks and buses, along with charging infrastructure, government policy and industry progress.
