New Division to Focus on Healthcare Compliance
On April 28th, the Victorian Government announced new funding for additional WorkSafe inspectors specifically for the health industry, a move welcomed by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Victorian Branch. This funding will establish a healthcare compliance division within WorkSafe.
Occupational violence and aggression (OVA) in healthcare settings have been persistent issues for nurses, midwives, and personal care workers. Maddy Harradence, ANMF (Vic Branch) Secretary, stressed the importance of workplace safety, stating, “Violence and aggression against nurses, midwives and personal care workers should never be normalised or accepted.”
The dedicated healthcare compliance division is expected to improve inspection thoroughness and hold healthcare employers accountable for safety measures. This initiative aims to protect ANMF members throughout Victoria, ensuring consistent support from Gippsland to Geelong.
