Industry Veterans Join Aravax

Aravax, a Melbourne-based biotechnology company, announced the appointment of Carsten Hellmann and Andrew Oxtoby to its Board of Directors on 10th April 2026. Both bring extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in allergy therapeutics.

Andrew Oxtoby is known for his role as Chief Commercial Officer at Aimmune Therapeutics, where he led the launch of Palforzia, the first approved treatment for peanut allergy. He later became President and CEO of Aimmune following its acquisition by Nestle Health Science.

Carsten Hellmann previously served as President and CEO of ALK-Abello A/S, a leader in allergen immunotherapy. His career also includes roles on the Executive Committee of Sanofi and as CEO of Merial, Sanofi’s animal health company.

In addition to his role at Aravax, Hellmann is currently the Chairperson of Chanelle Pharma and a Board Member of Coloplast and the Danish Chamber of Commerce. His leadership at ALK-Abello A/S contributed to a market cap of over US$6 billion, underscoring his impactful career.

Aravax's Strategic Move

Dr Pascal Hickey, CEO of Aravax, emphasised the importance of these appointments, stating, "I am excited to announce Andrew and Carsten joining our Board to support our next phase of growth. They bring proven track records in both the U.S. and Europe with the development and commercialisation of allergy medications."

Aravax is currently conducting Phase 2 trials for its lead product, PVX108, aimed at treating peanut allergy. The company’s platform focuses on retraining the immune system to tolerate food allergens safely.

Hellmann expressed confidence in PVX108's potential, highlighting its design as a next-generation immunotherapy. "PVX108 is extraordinarily well positioned to meet the challenge," he said.

Oxtoby added, "Despite advances in the pharmaceutical treatment of food allergy, it remains a rapidly growing problem worldwide with major health, social, and economic impacts. I believe Aravax’s approach has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to addressing this health need."

Oxtoby's extensive experience includes building global commercial organisations and navigating mergers and acquisitions, such as Aimmune's integration into Nestle Health Science. He is currently the President & CEO of Kalaris Therapeutics, focusing on therapies for retinal diseases.
