Expanding Copper Operations in North-West Queensland

Austral Resources Australia Ltd finalised the acquisition of the Lady Loretta site from Glencore on 30th April 2026, meeting all regulatory conditions. This acquisition expands its copper operations in North-West Queensland. With the deal, Austral Resources received US$40 million (A$55.94 million) from Glencore to strengthen its financial position by eliminating existing debt. Austral’s other key assets, Mt Kelly and Rocklands, now align in a consolidated copper production strategy. Becoming a debt-free entity marks a crucial milestone for the company.

Chairman David Newling remarked, "Lady Loretta is the third and final pillar in our revitalised strategy. Six months ago we were suspended from ASX with very little money in the bank. Fast forward to today, and we’ve acquired two assets, raised over $100m in fresh equity from investors, and are debt free."

Strategic Developments at Lady Annie

Austral Resources plans to initiate a strategic pit wall cutback at its Lady Annie site by Q2 2026, enhancing its ore supply pipeline. Additional drilling at Annie Deeps is set for Q3 2026. These efforts aim to extend Austral’s ore feed and resource base, unlocking a broader copper mineral system.

An offtake agreement with Glencore for all copper products accompanies the Lady Loretta acquisition, with a 2.5 per cent net smelter return royalty on production. This agreement is expected to provide a stable revenue stream as Austral expands its copper processing capabilities. Including both copper oxides and sulphides in the processing plan highlights Austral’s comprehensive approach to resource utilization.

Austral’s consolidation strategy, now complete with the Lady Loretta acquisition, positions the company as a key player in the Mt Isa–Cloncurry copper belt. This strategic positioning is expected to enhance Austral’s competitive edge in the copper mining industry. Austral’s transformation from a single-asset copper oxide producer to a multi-asset, dual-processing copper company marks a significant phase in its growth, underlining the importance of this acquisition for its long-term development.
