Ayurveda Suite Adds Private Dining And Two Queen Beds At Kalari Kovilakom

Kalari Kovilakom has launched its new Royal Library Suite inside its restored 19th-century palace retreat in Kerala, adding a more private accommodation option for guests undertaking Ayurvedic treatment.

The new suite sits within Kalari Kovilakom, a CGH Earth property in Kollengode in the Palakkad district. The retreat is known as “The Palace for Ayurveda” and operates around classical Ayurvedic healing, with treatment plans shaped by physicians, vegetarian diets, yoga, meditation and daily routines.

The Royal Library Suite was once a gathering chamber for the royal family of Vengunad. It later became a library for guests staying at the palace while undergoing Ayurveda treatments.

The room has now been restored as a larger suite with a private entrance, a secluded stairway and a separate balcony. Its design keeps the room’s original character while giving guests more space and privacy during longer stays.

Inside, the suite includes living and dining areas, a bedchamber with two queen-sized beds and two bathrooms. One bathroom connects to the living area, while the other connects to the bedroom.

Kalari Kovilakom usually serves meals in a shared dining setting as part of its daily rhythm. However, the suite’s private dining area can be used when a guest’s treatment phase requires rest or seclusion.

“The Royal Library Suite reflects our commitment to preserving the soul of Kalari Kovilakom while evolving its offerings for discerning guests seeking deeper privacy and meaning in their wellness journeys,” said a spokesperson for CGH Earth.

Palace Heritage Shapes The Stay

Kalari Kovilakom occupies the former palace grounds of the Vengunad kingdom. Its restoration uses traditional materials and design details tied to Kerala’s architectural heritage, with natural light, ventilation and quiet spaces built into the guest experience.

The retreat has 19 rooms, keeping capacity limited and the focus on structured Ayurvedic care. Each stay follows a disciplined daily pace, with prescribed treatments, diet and rest forming part of the guest’s routine.

The property also draws from the cultural legacy of the Vengunad kings, who were patrons of classical arts. Daily cultural sessions can include Kathakali dance and Carnatic music, with traditional instruments such as the mrudangam, flute, violin and harmonium.

Kalari Kovilakom is also connected to the annual Kollengode Arattu festival, held in the first week of January in honour of the deity Avvappan. The festival includes elephant processions and Panchavadhyam, a traditional ensemble of five classical instruments.

The Royal Library Suite adds a more private option within a retreat already positioned around serious Ayurvedic healing rather than conventional spa travel. Its appeal sits in the combination of palace history, physician-led treatment and slower, more disciplined stays.

Kalari Kovilakom is in Kollengode, Palakkad district, Kerala. It is accessible from Kochi and Coimbatore.
