Sports and Heritage Unite Border Communities

Baise, a city in Guangxi, China, has organised a series of events aimed at strengthening cultural integration with Vietnam. During the 2026 Guangxi March 3rd Bagui Carnival, these events promoted people-to-people exchanges along the China-Vietnam border. Sharing mountains, rivers, and cultural heritage with Vietnam, Baise serves as a vital link for cross-border cultural interactions.

The China-Vietnam Border Staff Football Invitational Tournament was held on April 23 in Napo County, Baise. Teams from Vietnamese border provinces and athletes from Chinese border counties participated, fostering friendship and understanding through sports. Such events leverage the inclusive nature of sports to break geographical barriers.

On April 25, the China-Vietnam Basketball Friendly Match took place at Jingxi Gymnasium. These sports events enriched the cultural life of border residents and boosted national fitness, strengthening the neighborly bond between Chinese and Vietnamese communities.

Meanwhile, the China-Vietnam Folk Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Exchange Gala occurred on April 23 in Jingxi. This gala featured performances of Southern Zhuang Opera and Zhuang Molun Ballads, celebrating shared cultural traditions with the Trà Lĩnh Art Troupe from Vietnam. Artists from both nations showcased the charm of intangible cultural heritage, highlighting the deep cultural ties between the two countries.

Youth and Literature Exchange Initiatives

Themed event ‘Books Link China and Vietnam, Youth Share the Joy of Reading’ took place on April 25 at Jingxi National Gate Bookstore. Guangxi Publishing & Media Group awarded the plaque of “China-Vietnam Joint Reading Site” to the venue, marking a new permanent platform for regular cultural exchanges. This initiative aims to nurture cross-border youth friendship through shared literary experiences.

On the same day, the China-Vietnam Youth ‘March 3rd’ New Folk Song Concert was held in Jingxi Splendid Ancient Town. Young singers from both countries performed, blending traditional folk music with contemporary styles. This event exemplified the dynamic cultural exchange between the youth of China and Vietnam.

The China-Vietnam Border Dwellers ‘March 3rd’ Cultural, Sports and Folk Customs Event showcased ethnic costume shows and cross-border folk song performances on April 26 at the Jingxi Equan Scenic Area. This vibrant display of folk customs highlighted the rich cultural tapestry shared by both nations.

Following these events, Baise plans to continue leveraging its geographic and cultural advantages to deepen cross-border interactions. The city aims to promote a harmonious relationship between China and Vietnam through regular cultural, sports, and folk events, further polishing the border brand of China-Vietnam good neighborliness.
