Government Invests $7 Billion in Defence

Australia’s leading developer of aerial target drone systems, Boresight, is positioning its capabilities to support the Australian Defence Force’s air and missile defence training. This follows the release of the 2026 National Defence Strategy on 30th April.

A $7 billion allocation by the Albanese Government towards counter-drone defence signals a continued focus on strengthening sovereign defence capabilities. Boresight’s drone systems are designed to replicate aerial threats, supporting realistic and scalable training environments aligned with Defence requirements.

Integrated air and missile defence, counter-uncrewed aerial systems, and autonomous platforms have been identified as priority investment areas within the strategy. These areas align with Boresight’s focus on developing high-fidelity aerial targets intended for advanced training scenarios.

Managing Director Justin Olde said the strategy reinforces the need for credible and locally supported training infrastructure.

“The 2026 NDS makes clear that Australia’s air defence capabilities must be credible, practiced, and sovereign. You cannot develop world-class counter-drone and missile defence operators without high-fidelity, locally available aerial targets. That is exactly what we deliver.”

Aligning with National Defence Goals

Operating from Canberra, Boresight’s capabilities align with the government’s push to strengthen sovereign industrial resilience and reduce reliance on overseas supply chains. Its systems include quadrotor and fixed-wing aerial targets designed to emulate evolving aerial threats.

The government’s Integrated Investment Programme outlines plans to more than double investment in counter-drone capabilities over the next decade, reinforcing demand for advanced and locally developed training solutions.

Boresight is positioning its aerial target drone systems as a solution to support Defence training requirements, with capabilities designed to contribute to the development of counter-small uncrewed aerial systems across both domestic and deployable environments.

The company has indicated it is ready to work alongside Defence to support training outcomes, supported by its international presence across the United States and United Kingdom and its scalable training infrastructure.

Boresight Ltd delivers an integrated aerial target drone ecosystem that enables realistic counter-UAS training and testing. Its systems combine attritable aerial target drones, mission planning software, and scalable ground control systems to support threat emulation and operational readiness.
