Brunswick Aces Adopts Solar Energy for Distillery Production

Brunswick Aces in Brunswick East, Melbourne, has transitioned its distillery operations to fully solar-powered production, with its custom-built stills now running entirely on renewable energy. The moderation distillery, located at 124 Weston Street, has reduced its energy costs by nearly 80% following the installation of a solar storage system.

The Brunswick Aces facility produces both alcoholic gin and non-alcoholic sapiir using the same native Australian botanicals and equipment. The solar installation enables full production to operate on renewable energy, marking a shift in how the distillery manages its manufacturing requirements.

The system was installed with support from SolaX Power Australia and includes a rooftop solar array connected to a 20kW X3-Pro-G2 inverter. The infrastructure supports continuous energy generation during production hours, reducing reliance on external electricity supply.

“We have a passion for making sure our products are not only delicious, but sustainable,” said Stephen Lawrence, Co-Founder and CEO of Brunswick Aces. “The last piece in our puzzle was to ensure our power came from the sun. Our only consideration now is how do we make more space on the roof for more panels.”

Brunswick Aces was established in 2017 as Australia’s first moderation distillery, producing both alcoholic and non-alcoholic spirits within the same operation. The business has expanded its distribution nationally and exports to markets including the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

Solar Upgrade and Energy Cost Impact

The solar upgrade comes as energy costs continue to impact small manufacturers across Australia. The reduction in operational costs provides a measurable change for the Brunswick East site, where energy demand is tied directly to production output.

SolaX Power Australia empowers Australians to take control of their energy through innovative solar storage solutions,” said Joey Zhang, General Manager of SolaX Power Australia. “SolaX’s hassle-free energy generation works in the background so the team can focus on distilling — no monitoring required, no stress about whether their system is performing. SolaX simply delivers, morning to night.”

The timing of the installation aligns with upcoming changes to the federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which will reduce rebate values per kilowatt hour from 1st May. The adjustment has increased attention on solar adoption among both businesses and households.

The Brunswick Aces distillery operates from a Brunswick East warehouse that also functions as a public venue. The site is open Thursday to Saturday for tastings, distillery tours and cocktail classes, offering both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options produced on-site.
