Sunwin Bus showcased two battery-electric models for Australian fleets
Sunwin Bus showcased two electric buses for Australia at the Australasia Bus & Coach Expo 2026 in Sydney on 18 July 2026. The display featured the iEV12 battery-electric city bus and the B13E battery-electric bus chassis.
Under the theme “Green Means More,” the Shanghai company drew strong interest from Australian public transport operators, government transport authorities and industry media.
Both products were developed for the Australian market. Sunwin Bus designed them for right-hand-drive operation, long-haul mileage, high reliability and coastal climate conditions.
During the expo, attendees watched a corporate video and received technical briefings on Sunwin Bus system integration and new energy bus technology.
Ma Zhenggang in Sydney
Ma Zhenggang, general manager of Sunwin Bus, tied the Sydney event to wider transport policy in Australia. He pointed to more local government plans for zero-emission bus fleets, faster charging infrastructure rollout and increased Australian federal support for new energy infrastructure.
“As the only dedicated manufacturer of medium- and large-sized new energy buses under SAIC Motor, Sunwin Bus regards this exhibition in Sydney as the starting point for providing advanced products and services to support Australia’s transition toward zero-emission public transportation,” Ma said.
He also outlined plans to learn more about Australian technical standards, regulatory requirements and the local industry ecosystem. As a result, Sunwin Bus plans to strengthen localisation, supply chains and service capability across the full product lifecycle.
Low-floor platform and CTP batteries
Built on Sunwin’s latest vehicle platform, the iEV12 and B13E use a fully low-floor, barrier-free layout for easier boarding and access.
Each model also uses Cell-to-Pack, or CTP, battery technology. According to Sunwin Bus, that setup supports longer driving range and better handling performance.
Meanwhile, the powertrain combines a new-generation high-efficiency electric drive motor with Sunwin’s own silicon carbide auxiliary control technology. Sunwin Bus optimised that system for public transport operating scenarios.
A highly integrated thermal management system aims to keep the buses running reliably during Australia’s hot summers. Enhanced anti-corrosion protection targets tough coastal operating environments.
For operators and body builders, the B13E chassis offers different wheelbases and front and rear overhang options. Those choices allow different body applications for Australian fleets.
Following the Sydney launch on 18 July 2026, Sunwin Bus described the expo as the start of a longer-term push into Australia. Ma said the strategy will rely on continuous product iteration.
