Workshops Focus on Sustainability and Finance
Farmers for Climate Action CEO Verity Morgan-Schmidt will lead two workshops in Tasmania on 3rd and 4th June, aiming to equip farmers with essential tools for green finance and nature-based farming solutions.
On 3rd June, the first workshop will take place at Bream Creek Showground. Attendees will gain insights from Professor Kara Barry, a leading figure in sustainable agriculture, and farmers Iain and Kate Field. These local farmers will share their successful experiences with nature-based practices that have bolstered their farm's resilience and profitability.
Iain Field remarked, "On farm we apply two key principles of ecology to almost everything we do: energy efficiency and diversity. All of our decision making builds on these two principles and they have allowed us to harness the efficiencies of nature and reduce costs."
Green Finance Opportunities in Longford
The second event is scheduled for 4th June at Longford Hall and is facilitated by the NAB Foundation. It will feature Emily Roberts from Westpine Advisory discussing on-farm carbon accounts. Tom Wright from NAB Agribusiness will also be present to explore the various green loan options available to farmers.
Emily Roberts explained, "Carbon accounting provides a different lens to look at your farming operation – and what you find might surprise you. Farmers who understand their emissions profile often discover real efficiency gains along the way: less waste, lower input costs, and a clearer picture of where their operation can improve."
These workshops reflect FCA's commitment to supporting farmers facing rising input costs and climate challenges. Verity Morgan-Schmidt emphasised their importance by stating, "Farmers are at the coal face of climate change, and we want to make sure they're aware of every tool available. Getting out on the farm and talking directly with farmers who are battling rising input costs and constant weather extremes is essential – it's how we can advocate for them effectively."
Registration for these events can be completed on the Farmers for Climate Action website. The workshops are expected to provide farmers with actionable insights and practical tools to enhance their farming practices sustainably.
