Survey Reveals Travel Sentiment Shift
Australians are reconsidering their travel plans for the Anzac Day long weekend as a recent drop in fuel prices offers relief, according to a survey by Reflections Holidays, New South Wales’ largest holiday park group.
Conducted on April 17, the survey of 5,000 travellers found that travel sentiment has improved by 4.2% since the fuel crisis began in March, though it still remains negative overall compared to pre-crisis levels.
Bookings have stabilised with a reduction in holiday cancellations, though fuel concerns continue to influence the travel decisions of 85% to 90% of respondents.
Reflections Holiday CEO Nick Baker expressed optimism about the trend, stating, “It is encouraging to see that those surveyed were feeling more optimistic about travelling as bowser prices dropped in recent weeks.”
Impacts on Travel Behaviour
Despite the positive shift in sentiment, guests are opting for shorter distances and spontaneous bookings. Travellers are now booking closer to their departure dates instead of planning months in advance.
Camping remains a popular and affordable option, with camping sites available for as little as $16 per night, and cabins starting at $84, according to Baker.
In March, Reflections Holidays offered a $25 fuel offset voucher for guests to use by April 30 and provided a fuel rebate to staff in regional parks.
Reflections Holidays, a social enterprise, reinvests profits into its 40 holiday parks and 47 community reserves across New South Wales, making it unique in its industry.
The survey highlighted that while travel sentiment improved, the influence of global affairs on the travel industry remains significant. From accommodation providers to regional tourism operators, the impact is still being felt.
As the Anzac Day long weekend approaches, Reflections Holidays is preparing for an influx of last-minute bookings. Many Australians are taking advantage of reduced travel costs to explore local destinations.
Reflections has 40 holiday parks across NSW, and confidence is definitely returning to the market. Guests are making savings by reducing travel distances and staying closer to home. They are also booking much more spontaneously.
Reflections Holidays remains committed to making travel accessible for everyone. As a certified social enterprise, it is the only holiday park group in Australia that reinvests all profits back into its parks and reserves.
