Strategic Partnership Aims at Japanese Market
GBP K.K. has entered a strategic partnership with Tongwei Co., Ltd., positioning itself as the market entry and localisation partner for Tongwei’s solar products in Japan. Announced on 14th April, the agreement strengthens GBP K.K.’s role in the global solar industry.
This partnership aims to address entry challenges in regulated solar markets, leveraging GBP K.K.’s local knowledge and certification expertise. The collaboration will see GBP K.K. deploying Tongwei’s TNC 3.0 module in projects focused on repowering and weather damage recovery, particularly in snow-affected regions.
Tongwei, recognised as the world’s largest solar cell supplier, has opted for this partnership to navigate the complex regulatory environment in Japan. The decision aligns with Tongwei’s goal of achieving a balanced domestic and international revenue mix.
Expanding Global Solar Capabilities
The partnership marks a significant shift for GBP K.K., elevating it from a regional specialist to a global strategic partner. It underscores the importance of local expertise in high-barrier markets, as global solar manufacturers face increasing technical and compliance demands.
GBP K.K. plans to expand its manufacturing partnerships and enhance product capabilities across its operating regions. This will support the development of technical solar infrastructure, providing access to suitable technology for asset owners and EPC contractors.
Initially, the deployment of the TNC 3.0 module will focus on repowering aging solar assets and recovering projects in snow-affected regions. As the partnership progresses, broader applications across GBP K.K.’s international portfolio are anticipated.
GBP K.K. has built a comprehensive network and project execution capability, crucial for operating in demanding markets like Japan. This includes end-to-end project management, from Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) to Operations and Maintenance (O&M).
Following the alliance, GBP K.K. and Tongwei aim to tackle structural barriers in markets such as Europe, Australia, and North America. These regions demand strict certification and localized after-sales infrastructure, which GBP K.K. is well-equipped to provide.
Tongwei has acknowledged the complexity of global market expansion. They noted, “Frequent changes in PV policies and import-export requirements have prompted enterprises to gain an in-depth understanding of the rules.” As a result, GBP K.K.’s expertise is vital.
GBP K.K. aims to strengthen its network of strategic partners and improve its supply capabilities to meet market demands for technically advanced solar infrastructure.
