Community Raises Over $111,000 for Dementia
The Gold Coast Memory Walk & Jog, held last weekend, brought together more than 940 participants. They showed up to support people impacted by dementia, raising an impressive total of $111,765 for Dementia Australia.
This event was one of 14 Memory Walk & Jog events held across Australia in 2026. Each event offers a wonderful opportunity for people impacted by dementia and their supporters to come together, walk or run, at any fitness level, and to raise money and share stories.
Participants walked, ran, or jogged to the finish line, promoting both brain health and fundraising for a vital cause. Dementia Australia CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in the event.
"There was an incredible turnout from the Gold Coast community this year yet again, in support of the many people impacted by dementia across the country," Professor Buchanan shared. "It’s been really moving and encouraging to see the community supporting Dementia Australia’s vital work by raising funds and awareness, as well as moving for their brain health – which research shows can help reduce our risk of dementia."
Volunteers Make the Event Possible
Professor Buchanan acknowledged the significant contribution of volunteers who helped ensure the event ran smoothly and safely. "The day was only possible through the hard work of our wonderful volunteers, who always make Memory Walk & Jog a safe, fun and memorable experience for everyone who takes part," she noted.
Dementia Australia is a leading source of information, education, and services for more than 446,500 Australians living with dementia. The organisation supports over 1.7 million people involved in their care, advocating for positive change and vital research.
For those who missed the event, Dementia Australia offers the option to organise a MyWay event. This allows participants to choose their own date and location for a walk or jog, making it accessible for everyone to contribute to the cause.
To be involved, individuals can register at www.memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw. This initiative encourages ongoing support and community involvement in the fight against dementia.
