Hand dermatitis rates among healthcare workers in Australia have surged from 21% pre-pandemic to over 37% by 2024, driven by intensified hygiene practices. This significant increase highlights the impact of frequent handwashing, extended glove use, and the application of disinfectants, which, while essential for infection control, are harsh on the skin.
As healthcare settings require strict sterility, these practices are particularly common and necessary. Skin conditions such as dermatitis have become more prevalent. A study published in ‘Safety and Health at Work’ in 2024 confirmed this trend, underscoring the need for protective solutions.
