HERE to Enhance Software-Defined Vehicles

HERE Technologies has joined the SOAFEE initiative to integrate its AI-powered mapmaking expertise into open software-defined vehicle platforms, as announced on 22nd April in Amsterdam. This move supports the industry's transition towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

SOAFEE, which stands for Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge, is an industry-led initiative aimed at simplifying the development and scaling of software-defined vehicles. The initiative brings together automakers, suppliers, and technology companies to create standardised, open architectures for vehicle software.

HERE will contribute to SOAFEE's Technical Steering Committee, offering its knowledge in mapping and location intelligence. This includes AI-powered mapmaking and real-time location services, which are crucial for modern vehicle functionalities.

The collaboration aims to support faster prototyping and integration of vehicle software, leveraging HERE's real-time location services and geospatial data within SOAFEE's cloud-native frameworks. This partnership is expected to drive innovation and efficiency in the development of SDVs.

“Software‑defined vehicles depend on real‑time, automotive‑grade location intelligence,” said Severin Bredahl-Banovic, Vice President of Business and Solution Architecture at HERE Technologies. “SOAFEE provides an open, cloud‑native framework for building vehicle software at scale.”

HERE's Role in the Future of Vehicles

The automotive industry is increasingly focusing on software-defined vehicles, where location intelligence plays a crucial role in developing features like automated driving and advanced navigation. HERE's involvement is set to aid the seamless integration of such technologies into vehicle environments using AI-powered live maps and dynamic data pipelines.

HERE's location platform currently powers 238 million vehicles globally, including over 63 million vehicles equipped with HERE data for driver assistance systems. This demonstrates HERE's significant influence in the automotive sector.

With over 40 years of experience, HERE Technologies has been a leader in mapping and location technology. From launching its first digital map in 1985 to shaping the future of software-defined vehicles today, HERE continues to drive innovation in the industry.

The collaboration with SOAFEE will further enhance HERE's support for the automotive sector, facilitating innovations in vehicle software development. The integration of HERE's geospatial technology is expected to improve the safety and performance of software-defined vehicles.
