New Engine Model Sets Efficiency Standard

Horse Powertrain introduced the HORSE W30, its first production-ready V6 engine, at the Beijing Auto Show 2026. This lightweight hybrid V6 sets a new benchmark in the automotive industry. Weighing only 160kg, it is approximately 10kg lighter than its nearest competitor.

The HORSE W30 is a 3-litre engine with installation flexibility, supporting both transverse and longitudinal arrangements. The design features a 90-degree offset between its two cylinder rows, lowering the centre of gravity and optimizing the catalyst layout.

With an output range of 350-400kW and torque between 600-700Nm, this engine reaches a maximum speed of 8,000rpm. Integrated exhaust manifolds with turbochargers on the cylinder heads enhance efficiency and fuel economy.

Engine Features and Capabilities

Horse Powertrain’s hybrid-first approach is evident in the HORSE W30. It is intended for mild and full-hybrid vehicles, with models expected on roads by 2028. The engine debuts alongside the new HORSE 4LDHT four-speed hybrid transmission at the show.

Matias Giannini, CEO of Horse Powertrain, highlighted the company’s ability to offer automakers unprecedented economies of scale and innovation. “By consolidating the powertrain production and development pipeline, we allow everyone in the industry to benefit from best-in-class technologies,” he stated.

The HORSE 4LDHT transmission, weighing 199kg, is designed for a P1 + P3 configuration. The P1 motor supports the engine crankshaft and charges the vehicle’s battery, delivering 250-300kW. Meanwhile, the P3 motor assists driving with a 350-450kW output.

Fortune Zhao, CTO of Horse Powertrain, noted, “The HORSE W30 showcases our technological versatility and represents our first venture into the V6 engine category.” The engine transfers expertise from optimised three- and four-cylinder engines, creating a hybrid-first V6 with superior fuel economy and efficiency.

Founded in London, Horse Powertrain collaborates with global automotive OEMs such as Renault Group, Geely Auto, and Volvo Cars. Operating 18 plants and five R&D centers worldwide, the company employs over 19,000 people.

The HORSE W30 engine, with its innovative design and technological advancements, marks a significant milestone for Horse Powertrain. It demonstrates the company’s commitment to leading the automotive industry in hybrid vehicle development.
