Freelancers and those in radio and podcasting were particularly impacted. Amrita Sidhu, Managing Director of Medianet, stated, “Journalists are effectively embracing the very technology they fear will undermine the integrity of their craft and the security of their roles.”
While journalists are adopting AI tools, they remain skeptical of AI-generated public relations content. According to the report, 78% of journalists feel that AI-written pitches reduce their trust in PR content, with 48% stating they can usually identify such pitches.
The report underscores a shift in the sources of information for journalists, with press releases now overtaking industry contacts as the primary story source. This change is coupled with a decline in the use of social media platforms, as journalists prefer more vetted and trusted sources.
