Leviticus film to open nationwide on 18th June 2026, following Sundance debut

The horror film Leviticus will release in Australian cinemas from 18th June 2026, following the launch of its official trailer. The film is written and directed by Adrian Chiarella and produced by Causeway Films.

The production comes from the same company behind Talk to Me, Bring Her Back and The Babadook. Distribution in Australia and New Zealand is handled by Maslow Entertainment in collaboration with Causeway Films.

Leviticus follows two teenage boys, Naim and Ryan, who develop an unexpected connection. However, when their relationship attracts attention from their community, a ritual is performed. As a result, the act releases a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most, each other.

The film premiered earlier in 2026 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received critical and audience attention. Subsequently, it was acquired by NEON after a competitive bidding process. The US-based distributor will release the film across North America on 19th June 2026.

NEON has previously supported films including Parasite, I, Tonya, Anatomy of a Fall, Together and Longlegs. The acquisition positions Leviticus for a wider international rollout following its Australian debut.

Production and distribution details

Leviticus is produced by Causeway Films with major production investment from Salmira Productions and Screen Australia. In addition, the project is financed in association with VicScreen and Kojo Studios.

Maslow Entertainment leads local distribution efforts, continuing its partnership with Causeway Films after the release of Talk to Me. The collaboration reflects an ongoing working relationship between the two companies on Australian film releases.

The cast includes Joe Bird, Stacy Clausen, Jeremy Blewitt, Ewen Leslie, Davida McKenzie, Nicholas Hope, Zahra Newman and Mia Wasikowska.

Maslow Entertainment, based in Sydney, has released a range of films in Australia over the past five years. These include Talk to Me, Late Night with the Devil, The Way, My Way, The Correspondent and The Pout-Pout Fish. The company focuses on theatrical distribution across Australia and New Zealand.

The release of Leviticus follows a recent trend of Australian horror productions gaining international attention. With both local and international distribution secured, the film enters cinemas in Australia on 18th June 2026, one day before its North American release.
